.

Change Your Sitting Position Often

Lower back pain often occurs due to the position you sit in. To manage this, limit the amount of time you spend sitting in one position. Ideally, you should not sit down for more than 30 minutes at a time. When you do sit, support your back with a small pillow, or make sure that the backrest of the chair pushes your back slightly forward.

The ideal sitting position is to rest your arms parallel to the floor with your shoulders straight, not hunched or lifted. You should place your feet directly on the floor and avoid crossing your legs.

Even the way you sit while you are driving can cause back pain. You can use a small lumbar cushion when sitting in the driver's seat to maintain proper spinal curve. The seat should be close enough to reach your back. Have your knees in a small bend to reduce the chance of getting pain in the knees. It is also important to make sure that your knees are never lower than your hips.

Prevent Back Pain by Often Changing Your Posture

Our chiropractors, Drs. Schmid and Ransone, recommend that you often change your standing posture to prevent back pain. When standing, your shoulders should be straight, and your feet should be hip-width apart. If moving around isn't an option, prevent lower back pain by placing one foot on a box or stool and alternate the foot's position.
