Chiropractic Partners Offers Tips For Staying Healthy During Summer Travel

Summer offers more leisure time and trips to faraway places. But with travel that can also mean a greater chance of developing aches and pains from sitting too long or staying in the same position for a long period of time. 

Chiropractic Partners would like to offer a number of tips to prevent common types of travel discomfort.

Staying Comfortable For the Car Ride

Car travel can be fun, but staying seated can lead to back pain, hip pain, knee problems and neck stiffness. Find a comfortable cushion to provide more comfort for sitting. In addition, a small cushion for the lumbar area of the back will prevent discomfort. Take frequent breaks while on the road and walk around to keep the blood moving in your legs.

Airplane Travel

You can ensure greater comfort and fewer aches on your flight by doing a few stretching exercises before you begin your trip. Take opportunities to get out of your seat and into the aisle as frequently as possible. Prop up your feet with a tote bag to help circulation in your legs. Airplane interior air can be very dry, so take frequent sips of water to avoid dehydration, which can add to the physical discomfort. Try adding a rolled towel or shirt for added lumbar support in tight spaces.

Orthotics and Posture

It may sound simple, and it is! Remember the old sayings "Sit up straight and hold your shoulders back?" It's very true, posture is so important and helps prevent back and neck pain.  Traveling can also mean lots of walking, the right shoe is critical and if there is no support, try slipping in custom orthotics from our office.  We can scan your feet to find so they are customized just for you!
